Healthcare is broken.
We are fixing it.
A surgeon sat in a Cincinnati operating room and watched the system fail his patients, not from a lack of care, but from a lack of coordination. He decided to do something about it. That was 2017. This is what happened next.
American healthcare is the most expensive in the world. It is also the most fragmented.
The average employee navigates a system designed to process them, not coordinate their care. They sit in waiting rooms for conditions that could be resolved in minutes. They wait weeks for specialist referrals that a phone call could have handled in hours. They pay for care that a more coordinated system would never have ordered. And employers foot the bill for every inefficiency.
HealthcareLive was built to replace that system, starting with the moment of first contact. When the right specialist reaches the patient first, everything downstream changes: the diagnosis is faster, the treatment is more targeted, unnecessary procedures are avoided, and the employee is back to work. The math is not complicated. The execution has been.
CEO and Founder
[Headshot placeholder]
A surgeon who could not find the tool he needed, so he built it.
I looked and researched and just could not find anything that really fit the need for surgeons to be able to see their patients. And so I decided, as crazy as that sounds, I am going to form a company.
Dr. Mike Greiwe trained at Notre Dame, completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati, and finished a shoulder and elbow fellowship at Columbia University under the New York Yankees team physician. Back in practice at OrthoCincy near Cincinnati, he kept encountering the same problem: patients traveling long distances for routine follow-ups that could have happened over video. Care delayed. Costs compounded. Outcomes worsened.
Around 2015, he searched the market for an orthopedic telemedicine platform. Nothing existed. So he built one himself. OrthoLive launched formally in 2017 as what the company described as the world’s first orthopedic telemedicine platform, built by orthopedists, for orthopedists.
The founding thesis was simple: fee-for-service healthcare creates incentives for more procedures, not better outcomes. Put the specialist at the front of the care journey, virtually, and the entire episode changes. Fewer unnecessary surgeries. Faster accurate diagnoses. Faster return to work. Lower total cost. That thesis still drives every product decision made at HealthcareLive today.
Dr. R. Michael Greiwe, MD
Mike Greiwe is one of the rare people who holds two full-time careers without sacrificing either. He is a practicing orthopedic surgeon at OrthoCincy, specializing in shoulder replacement, labral repairs, rotator cuff surgery, and Tommy John reconstruction. And he is the CEO of HealthcareLive, the company he founded from a problem he encountered in his own operating room.
Too many procedures are being done that are unnecessary. When we are living in a fee-for-service environment, people get paid to do procedures. We are changing that.
From a Cincinnati idea to 4 million lives covered.
Nine years. One founding thesis. A platform that now covers more employer locations than any occupational telemedicine company in the country.
Same team. Same mission. A much bigger platform.
OrthoLive built the clinical credibility, the employer relationships, and the infrastructure. HealthcareLive is where it all comes together: a full coordinated care platform that goes far beyond orthopedics, covering every health event an employer’s workforce will face.
We believe the right specialist, reached at the right moment, changes everything.
HealthcareLive was not built to be another telehealth app or another occupational health vendor. It was built to solve a systems problem: the gap between when a patient needs a specialist and when they actually reach one. Close that gap, and most of what makes healthcare expensive and ineffective disappears with it.
What we believe about healthcare.
The beliefs that shaped the platform from day one, and that every product decision still runs through today.
Six integrated products. One coordinated care platform.
HealthcareLive did not acquire a bundle of disconnected point solutions. Every product was built around the same clinical thesis: put the right specialist at the front of care, coordinate the episode, and measure the outcome.
