The Origin of Dr. Mary Thyme and HealthcareLive
In the vast, unpredictable expanse of the ocean, Dr. Mary Thyme was no ordinary shipboard doctor. An emergency medicine physician, she thrived under pressure, making split-second decisions to save lives aboard a massive cruise ship carrying thousands of passengers and crew. But the relentless stream of medical challenges—heart attacks, rare infections, fractures, and mysterious illnesses—tested even her razor-sharp expertise. With no immediate access to specialists and limited resources, Mary often felt like she was navigating a storm alone. “There has to be a better way,” she’d whisper to herself, staring out at the endless waves.
One stormy night, while treating a passenger with a baffling condition, a freak accident changed everything. A lightning strike hit the ship medical bay and Mary directly.. and when she awoke, she could hear whispers—distant voices of medical experts from across the globe, carried to her like sonar pulses through the air. Her new-found Echo Sonar superpowers allowed her to tap into the collective knowledge of the world’s top specialists, their expertise resonating in her mind as clearly as if they were standing beside her.
Dr. Mary Thyme didn’t just see this as a gift—she saw it as a mission. Using her powers, she developed MDatSea, a revolutionary video-based system that connected shipboard doctors to top specialists 24/7. No matter the case—orthopedic, neurosurgery, cardiology, or rare tropical diseases—Mary could summon real-time consultations with the best minds in medicine. Her clinical expertise, now amplified by this interconnected network, gave her unshakable confidence. She could diagnose and treat with precision, delivering world-class care from anywhere on Earth!
THE LIFELINE
Jack “Lifeline” Carter was a small-town rancher’s son, known for his hard work, resilience, and deep roots in his Texas community. He grew up in a place where healthcare was scarce, where the nearest hospital was miles away, and where waiting was just part of life. On one fateful day, his father—a hardworking rancher who had spent his life providing for others—fell ill. Jack rushed him to get care, only to find that the healthcare system wasn’t designed to reach people like them. The specialists were too far away, appointments unavailable, and his father was left to wait until it was too late.
His father’s death not only cost Jack his hero but also made him realize how many others in his position faced the same obstacles—delayed treatments, missed diagnoses, and a system that seemed to prioritize proximity over people. Frustrated by the lack of access to care for families like his, Jack vowed to do something about it.
BECOMING LIFELINE
After losing his father to delayed care, Jack couldn’t return to ranching the same way. But rather than accepting defeat, he found a new purpose. He hung up his spurs and became a care navigator, determined to ensure that no family—whether in rural towns or bustling cities—would ever have to navigate the healthcare system alone again.
In his new role, Jack discovered he hadn’t left his cowboy skills behind—he’d transformed them. His lasso became a symbol of connection, coordination, and compassionate care. Now, instead of herding cattle, he guides patients through the healthcare maze. With the precision of a seasoned rancher, Jack can link patients to the right resources, connect them with community support services, and bridge the gaps between specialists, primary care, and triage services. He wraps his lasso around the barriers that keep people from getting care—lack of transportation, confusing insurance, language barriers, and social isolation—and clears a path so patients can find their way to healing.
Jack may have traded the open range for hospital corridors, but his mission remains the same: protecting those who need help most, ensuring no one gets lost along the way.
MISSION & MOTIVATION
Lifeline’s mission is rooted in his experience as a rancher’s son who didn’t have access to the care his father needed. Now, his goal is to ensure that every patient, regardless of where they live, has access to healthcare when it matters most. He fights to bring justice to communities by reducing wait times and confusion, while also protecting patients by streamlining access to care.
For rural towns and underserved communities across the country, Lifeline is more than a symbol—he’s a protector, ensuring that distance doesn’t determine health outcomes and that families are taken care of, no matter where they call home. With his lasso in hand, he’s constantly roping in solutions and making sure healthcare is fair, fast, and always within reach.
Hank Matthews Story:
Hank was your classic midwest orthopedic surgeon. Strong as an ox and twice as smart, Hank saw what many doctors see, patients who needed his help. He had healed a lot of people over the years, but he wanted to do even more. He knew that physicians were tired and overworked and he wanted to create a better system. One fateful day, he decided to take justice for employees and employers into his own hands. He had seen patient after patient arrive without a diagnosis, languishing in the system with no real answers and high medical bills to show for it – he felt sad that our healthcare system had failed them. So, he decided to try to make a difference.
One day, many years ago, he gathered his savings and began HealthcareLive to try to change the world. He wasn’t sure how big he could make it, but he wanted it to be the biggest and best healthcare organization in the world. He wasn’t your classic superhero, where his superpowers allowed him to fly or have x-ray vision (although that would’ve been cool as an orthopedic surgeon), but he became known for his speed, accuracy, quality and desire to treat everyone fairly. Soon, the world began to notice that when Hank was on the case, people were satisfied with their healthcare provider and got the best value out of their healthcare dollars.
Hank became a superhero just by doing the right thing, everyday, 24/7/365.
